Escape the city heat and journey into the heart of the High Atlas Mountains. Our Ourika Valley Day Trip is the most popular escape from Marrakech, offering a refreshing mix of lush landscapes, traditional Berber life, and stunning mountain scenery.

With Travel Morocco Trip, you won’t just see the valley from a window. We take you deep into the mountains to share mint tea with a local Berber family, hike to hidden waterfalls, and enjoy the famous experience of dining with your feet in the cool river water. It’s the perfect day for nature lovers and families seeking an authentic taste of rural Morocco.

Your private Travel Morocco Trip guide will pick you up in a comfortable 4x4 or Minivan. We head south toward the High Atlas, stopping at the Moulay Brahim mausoleum and the village of Tahnaout. The landscape quickly changes from city red to mountain green.

Experience true Moroccan warmth. We stop at a traditional Berber home where a local family will welcome you with fresh mint tea and home-baked bread. You’ll get a first-hand look at their ancient way of life and traditional bread ovens (Tafarnout).

We continue into the valley, following the winding river. For lunch, we choose one of the charming riverside cafes. You can opt for the "cool feet" experience, where your table is set directly in the refreshing stream—the ultimate way to enjoy a Moroccan Tagine on a warm day.

After lunch, we reach the end of the road at Setti Fatma. Here, you can hire a local expert guide for a 1.5-hour hike. The trail takes you up into the rocky mountains to explore the beautiful waterfalls and enjoy panoramic views of the fertile valley below.

As the shadows grow long over the mountains, we begin our drive back, arriving at your Riad in Marrakech by early evening, feeling refreshed by the mountain spirit

Yes! This is one of our most accessible tours. It’s perfect for families with children, couples, and solo travelers. While the hike to the waterfalls requires some effort, the rest of the day—including the riverside lunch and the Berber house visit—is very relaxed and easy.

We highly recommend wearing sturdy sneakers or hiking boots. The path up to the Setti Fatma waterfalls can be rocky and slippery in some areas. Also, even if it’s hot in Marrakech, the mountains are always cooler, so a light jacket or scarf is a good idea.

Yes! This is the signature experience of the Ourika Valley. During the warmer months, the local restaurants set up tables and chairs directly in the shallow, cool parts of the river. It’s a unique and refreshing way to enjoy a traditional Moroccan Tagine.

A typical guided hike to the first few waterfalls takes about 1.5 to 2 hours (round trip). If you are an experienced hiker and want to see all seven waterfalls, let your guide know, and we can extend the trekking time. If you prefer not to hike, you can simply enjoy the riverside cafes and the mountain views.

You will be welcomed into an authentic mud-brick home to experience Berber hospitality. You’ll share mint tea and traditional bread with the family and learn about their daily life, their ancient traditions, and how they use traditional "Tafarnout" ovens to bake.

If your trip falls on a Monday or Thursday, we can stop at the vibrant weekly markets in the villages of Tahnaout or Asni. These are not tourist markets; they are authentic places where mountain locals gather to trade livestock, spices, and handmade goods.
