Go beyond the 4×4 tracks and discover the soul of the desert. Our 6-day Desert Trekking in Morocco is an invitation to slow down and reconnect. Starting from Marrakech, you will journey to the gateway of the desert, M’hamid, before setting off on a nomadic expedition. You will walk across diverse ecosystems—from lush oases and rocky plateaus to the towering « screaming dunes » of Erg Ezzahar. This is an off-grid experience where your only companions are your guides, the camels, and the infinite Saharan stars.

Your adventure starts early with a drive across the High Atlas Mountains. We stop at the UNESCO-listed Ait Ben Haddou to explore its cinematic mud-brick towers. We continue through the Draa Valley’s palm groves to reach M’hamid, the last village before the open Sahara.

  • Overnight: Traditional Guesthouse/Camp in M’hamid.

The trek begins! We leave the village behind and head into the wild desert. We walk through a variety of desert landscapes, reaching the shrine of Sidi Naji, a sacred site for the local tribes.

  • Overnight: Wild Camping among the dunes.

Today we reach the heart of the Sahara. We trek across the dry Draa riverbed toward the massive dunes of Erg Ezzahar. These are some of the most remote dunes in Morocco, offering a 360-degree view of the desert wilderness.

  • Overnight: Camping at the foot of the "Screaming Dunes."

After a magical sunrise, we head toward the ancient ruins of Boughbra. This area is known for its desert vegetation and unique geological formations. It’s a day of peace and deep silence.

  • Overnight: Wild Camping.

We begin our return loop, walking through oases and small nomadic settlements. We reach the village of Ouled Driss, where you can visit a local museum housed in a 400-year-old Kasbah to learn about Saharan history.

  • Overnight: Guesthouse or Camp in Ouled Driss.

Our vehicle meets us for the return journey. We drive back through the Draa Valley and across the Atlas Mountains, arriving in Marrakech by late evening, carrying the peace of the desert with us.

This trek is moderate but requires a good spirit of adventure. We walk for about 4 to 6 hours daily. You don't need to be a professional athlete, but being comfortable with walking on soft sand and uneven terrain is important. The best part? The camels carry all the heavy gear, so you only walk with your small daypack.

This is a true nomadic experience! For 4 nights, we set up wild camps in the middle of the dunes. We provide professional tents and thick sleeping mats. It’s an "open-air hotel" where you can see the Milky Way clearly before falling asleep. The first and last nights are usually in a traditional guesthouse in M’hamid or Ouled Driss.

Don't worry! We travel with a camel caravan. If you feel exhausted, you can ride a camel for a while to rest your legs. We also have support vehicles nearby for emergencies, ensuring your safety throughout the journey.

You’ll be surprised at what our nomadic cook can do! Every day, we prepare fresh Moroccan meals: warm bread baked in the sand (Madfouna), fresh salads, and nourishing tagines. We also provide plenty of mineral water and, of course, traditional mint tea at every stop.

Since this is a wild trek, there are no fixed bathrooms. We provide basins of warm water for washing ("nomad style") every morning and evening. For toilets, we use the "nature way" with designated private areas away from the camp, ensuring we leave no trace to protect the environment.

Erg Ezzahar is one of the highest and most remote dune fields in Morocco. It’s called the "Screaming Dunes" because of the unique humming sound the sand makes when the wind blows or when you walk on the crests. It’s a magical place where you’ll feel like the only person on Earth.
